These were created for an exhibition at the Thimble Gallery, Winnipeg MB in March of 2025 to celebrate Women's History Month. The collection was inspired by women of various ages, races, and time periods. Some are women I know, some are famous, some are unknown. All are to be celebrated. None are identified on the artwork.
The frames were created and purchased locally to fit my vision for this project. The silhouette is gold paint an gold leaf on black paper. The frames are wood, also painted with gold. The plants are real, dried and there is outline machine stitching to add en element of thread work.
The plants can be seen as a symbol of women's relationship with plants and a symbol of reciprocity with Mother Earth.
They are signed on back by the artist, and stamped, "March 8, 2025". Measuring 4.5" high × 3.25" wide / 11cm high x 8 cm wide, they hand by a loop of silk ribbon glued and secured to the back.
Dried plants may fade over the years. It is best not to display in sunshine. The add beautiful text regardless of the coloring.
